Dear Parents/Carers,
We are writing to inform you that the new primary build programme is starting on Monday 15th June. It has taken 6 years to arrive at this point and we are delighted to have the prospect of a net zero carbon building for eight primary classes by Autumn 2027. However, we are also aware of the impact that this build will have on our Thame Lane neighbours and the school operation.
The first stage of the building works will be to install a contractor’s compound and temporary road surface at the North End of our school field between the Thame Lane field gate and the tennis courts. The main contractors, Morgan Sindall, have released a newsletter showing the plan for the enabling works. It has been sent to all our neighbours and is attached to this letter.
The immediate consequence for the school community is that it will be impossible to use the field for excess parking from the 15th June for at least two weeks. The restriction on parking means that there could be increased traffic along Thame Lane at peak times. We recommend that, where possible, parents and their children walk or cycle to school or arrange car sharing or parking at Culham Lock to reduce the traffic congestion. In addition, we’re also proposing a staggering of school starts and end times for primary students as detailed below:
Plan for the morning:
Parents with primary children only, coming by car, can arrive up to 08:45. The children should go straight to the playground before 8:25 and to class after 8:25 and be registered there – they do not need to sign in at reception. Parents are allowed on site to escort their child, but we encourage you to leave the site promptly. Reception and KS1 parents must accompany their children.
Parents may stop in the bus bay after the last bus has left. This is a drop-and-go area, so please do not park or wait in the bay.
Plan for the afternoon
For those who can or wish to, you can collect your Primary children directly from the classroom from 3:10pm from the 15th of June until further notice (possibly the end of the school year). It will not be possible to collect Secondary siblings before the end of their school day.
For parents collecting secondary students only, it would be advisable to collect after 4pm to avoid the congestion.
The school will remain open as normal for the ones who haven’t been collected early. We will continue to look after them as usual, and you will be able to collect them at the normal time from their usual collection point.
Please do not park on the bus bay as there will be buses coming.
Kind reminder:
-
The front entrance to the school is the access for staff only. Do not park on the Thame Lane or the A415 verges.
-
Please ensure you inform the primary class teacher in advance if another parent or a secondary sibling is collecting your child from their primary class. You must either send an email to your child’s class teacher giving consent or show a text message from the parent/secondary sibling giving consent when collecting.
-
No change for bus children, after school club or after school club activities.
-
If your child is taking part in a school trip, please make sure they arrive at school on time and are collected at the usual time.
-
We kindly ask you to leave the site promptly
We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.
Regards
Lynn Wood
