Europa School UK joins the International Spanish Academy
This week, Europa School UK celebrated becoming one of the first schools in the UK and Europe to join the International Spanish Academy (ISA) programme, with two wonderful events that brought our whole community together.
On a beautiful September day, Europa was delighted to welcome the Spanish Under-Secretary of Education, Vocational Training and Sports Mr Santiago Roura to the school, where he met students, staff, governors and parents.
Our guests were entertained by some of the students in the Spanish stream in primary singing Madre Tierre and Bonito Bonito. Their lovely and enthusiastic performances were followed by some of the pupils from secondary who gave eloquent and confident speeches in Spanish.
Both Mrs Lynn Wood, Principal and Sr Roura spoke about how important this new link will be for the future of our school and our students.
Signing the agreement at the Spanish Embassy
The following day, staff, governors and students travelled to London for the ceremonial signing event at the residence of the Ambassador of Spain. It was a beautiful venue and an unforgettable experience for everyone who went, especially our students. The agreement was co-signed, officially launching the ISA programme in the UK.
The official party from the previous day was joined by Ambassador Aparici, representatives from the Department for Education, the British Council, universities, Members of Parliament and local authorities, and strategic partners including the Association for Language Learning (ALL). Representatives of the Bilingual Primary School of Brighton & Hove, the other UK school joining the programme, also attended.
What this means for Europa
ISA is a network of high-performing schools outside Spain, officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education. We join it alongside the Bilingual Primary School of Brighton & Hove.
This builds on our existing recognition through PASCH, run by the Goethe-Institut, for our German section, and the Label FrancÉducation for our French section. With ISA, all three of our language sections now carry official international recognition.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make these two days so memorable, including the children, students, staff and governors.
