Here is the account of the day by Europa UK‘s Career Coordinator, Rosie Bosse Chitty:On Friday 27th September, the new S6 cohort of students took part in an exciting trip to London. This was a wonderful opportunity to attend the European Careers Roadshow at the Goethe Institut in Kensington, focusing on careers and study opportunities in Europe. We were particularly privileged to participate in the Careers Fair at the Goethe Institut; thanks to our school’s PASCH accreditation, we were offered a Goethe Institut grant to cover the full cost of the coach transport. We are extremely grateful to the Goethe Institut for this support which enabled the entire S6 group to participate in the Roadshow. As the trip fell at the start of their Sixth Form programme, we were also able to include a social element to the day, remaining in London for the evening.
The European Careers Roadshow featured exhibition stands of European organisations and European/international companies; interactive workshops, panel discussions and talks around the topic “Career and study opportunities with European languages”; presentations by companies, young professionals and students; as well as information on study opportunities with German and other European languages. There were an incredible number of enthusiastic and motivational speakers and volunteers.‘
Students clearly loved the day at the Goethe-Institut – please see some of their enthusiastic comments below:
It was good to understand how languages can be helpful in all sorts of areas, things I hadn’t thought of.
I have enjoyed meeting people from organisations who can help me study abroad.
I didn’t realise there would be people from Spanish, French and German speaking places there.
It’s been really good – given me lots of ideas for studying.
I know more about what I can do with my German now.
The freebies were great!
Europa UK is already looking forward to taking future cohorts of sixth formers to the European Careers Roadshow in coming years!
