From the Oxfordshire County Council Music Service:
We’re seeking Oxfordshire’s best young musicians to be part of our debut virtual competition – do you think you’ve got what it takes? All you have to do is email us a video of you performing a piece of your choosing to be in with a chance of being crowned Oxfordshire Young Musician of the Year! We will also share your videos on social media (@OxMusicService) to showcase the talent in Oxfordshire!
Applications are free and there will be prizes for each of the 4 age groups (5-8yrs, 9-11yrs, 12-15yrs, 16-20yrs), alongside one overall winner. Participants must be between the age of 5-20 on 6 July 2020 and live within Oxfordshire. The closing date for entries is 5pm on 6 July 2020.
Our judging criteria is designed to look much further than technical standards and level of playing, and points will be awarded on many aspects, including musical awareness, tone/sound quality and performance flair.
To apply:
Choose your favourite piece (this can be any style or genre, between 2 and 5 minutes, and can include a backing track or accompaniment)
Practise, practise, practise! (you can work on it with your teacher for more guidance)
Video yourself performing it
Complete the attached application form and consent
Email the video and application form to the email indicated in the application form with the following subject ‘VIRTUAL YOUNG MUSICIAN COMPETITION – CHILD NAME – AGE’ (if the name of the child is not included your application might not be accepted) before 5pm on 6 July.
Winners will be announced 17 July 2020
