Marie Gaillard- Deputy Head of Primary

I am delighted to have been appointed to the position of Deputy Head of Primary for the Stream Languages after seven years as a primary French teacher at Europa School UK, teaching both KS1 and KS2.

I hold a Master’s degree in French literature, as well as a degree in Arts administration. Before becoming a qualified teacher in 2009, I trained as a puppeteer in Paris and Amiens, my hometown. I have always connected my passion for art with education, firmly believing that children learn best through creativity and projects.

Early on in my career, I participated in an international mobility program in the county of Durham, teaching French as a foreign language, helping to establish partnerships between various schools in France and England and learning about the English education system. This really kindled my curiosity about the different approaches to teaching taken in different cultures.

After spending a year teaching Francophone and non-Francophone children in Ecuador at a French/Spanish school, I joined Europa in 2015. During my time here, I have cultivated strong relationships with universities interested in multilingual education. I have contributed to the development of our language curriculum and have helped to coordinate the planning and implementation of the new language support provision for children joining the school late and being new to the language.

Outside of school, I am a mother of three, with one of my children already attending the school.

It means a lot to me to follow in Monsieur Marechau’s footsteps, and I am excited to carry on his work, promoting our unique bilingual model and supporting the teaching staff.
