We are excited to announce EUROPA’S FIRST EVER MEGA ECO FRIENDLY CLOTHES SWAP on TUESDAY 15th June 2021 at lunchtime outside in the SECONDARY QUAD!

TROUSERS, SKIRTS, T-SHIRTS, HATS, DRESSES, HOODIES, BELTS, SCARVES, JUMPERS, ANYTHING WELCOME! Bring in the clothes that you do not wear anymore (but are clean and in good condition) and swap them for something you would wear!

The way it will work is you get a certain number of tokens (1,2 or 3) for each item of clothing you bring (e.g. a plain t-shirt might get one token whereas a fancy pair of trousers might get 3). This is to make it as fair as possible. You can bring as many items as you want. The more items you bring, the more tokens you get. Then, at lunch you can trade in the value of your tokens for some great new clothes!

Please bring the clothes you want to swap AND YOUR £2 ENTRY FEE to the secondary quad during morning break (or any other time before lunch on Tuesday) in exchange for a wristband and an amount of tokens.

The swap will take place at lunch period 6 (or around lunch for S6s with lunch lessons), when you can get searching for something that you would like!

Please participate, not only to have a great time and help us S7s, but also to repurpose your clothes and boycott the fast fashion industry

Then, in an interactive live session, students learned how to build a bank of revision tips and strategies delivered in conjunction with the award-winning “MADE Training’. In the afternoon students had the chance to explore sessions on study skills and whether the university is right for them. At the end of the day, students had a chance to ask questions to current Oxford Brookes students in a live Q+A session.

This photo shows one of the S7 chemistry students grinding up red cabbage to make a vegetable dye. We were doing a two part investigation to see if we could create a colour-fast natural dye. We will be testing the results this week so I could take some more photos tomorrow. The aim is to contrast natural dyes with a group of synthetic dyes known as Azo dyes, which a very colour-fast but which we can’t use because they are toxic. We prepared the cloth in two different ways and want to see if that makes a difference to how long it holds its colour. We made a lot of mess as we also made dyes from beetroot. They enjoyed it after being in lockdown for three months.

S1F Art have been working on a project about the Inuit culture.

During this last week (15th March – 19th March), nine S6 students participated in a virtual Model European Council (MEC) with other European schools. Europa students represented the governments of Finland and Luxembourg during the MEC. Acting as ministers for these countries, they took part in negotiations on  various matters of concern for the EU. These included homelessness, COVID vaccine nationalism, digital tax, abortion rights, and finding eco-friendly alternatives for transport after the pandemic.

Many political proposals were debated, some were successful and others rejected. Students had to respond to  questions from the press (roles played by other European students).

Europa students were able to learn some valuable skills from this opportunity. The event was a great opportunity to engage in debates and express opinions in a formal situation with clear objectives.

On the final day, all participants had the amazing opportunity to listen to Ursula von der Leyen, the current president of the European Commission.
