Young Art Oxford 2017 – Outstanding Art
Young Art Oxford is an annual art exhibition open to all Oxfordshire schools with children from any year between Reception to Year 9. All the money raised goes to Cancer Research UK. This year’s exhibition, The World We Live In, saw around 3000 entries out of which 516 were chosen. We are delighted that six of our entries were selected and we hope that many of you will go to the Exhibition of these pictures in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford between 4th and 6th May 2017. Very many congratulations go to Rose R from Reception, Sophie S-T from Year 1, Christopher H from Year 2, Hanna-Roza M and Aurelia B from Year 4 and Grace B from Year 6, and well done to all the children who took part! Photos to follow.
Primary Maths Challenge 2017 – Stellar Mathematicians
With the results from the Bonus Round of the Primary Maths Challenge just out, Europa School can now celebrate its fantastic mathematicians! 28 pupils from the school took part in this year’s challenge addressed to pupils from Years 5 and 6. Of these, four gained a gold certificate, four achieved silver, and 11 a bronze certificate. Four pupils, Isaac T, Isaac M, Jakob S and Aidan G had scored enough points to be able to enter the Bonus Round – an excellent achievement. A special mention must go Aidan G who won a silver medal in the Bonus Round. It is his second medal in this prestigious challenge. Very well done, Aidan! Certificates will be handed out in an assembly before Easter.
Kieran Bennett - 7 years old - 3DE pupil at Europa and member of the Oxford Karate Academy - won a Gold medal and Gold trophy as well as a Silver medal in a recent Kata tournament in Zelenograd near Moscow, Russia on 26th February 2017. Well done Kieran!
We were very proud to hear of the wonderful achievements of two of our year 3 girls, Faye (3DE) and Zayana (3FE), both members of the Abingdon Gymnastics Club, in the recent regional floor and vault competition. They competed in the eight-year old category with Faye winning silver for her floor routine and Zayana winning silver for her vault. Many congratulations go to both girls!
Ben and Indi Rugby Champions
Well done to Indi and Ben from 3DE for their Rugby achievements this year. Indi has been awarded with the Clubman of the year trophee and Ben with the Most Improved Player trophee of their age group, the U8s. Good luck with tackling next year boys!
Amelia hits all the right notes
It was lovely to see so many pupils from the Europa School taking part in the Abingdon Music Festival over the Bank Holiday weekend. We are very proud of all of them. Amelia Griffith stood out with gaining an 'outstanding' in the Piano 10 years and under class playing the first movement of Beethoven's Sonatina in G. This was a large class and 'outstanding' is the highest category to be awarded. Many congratulations, Amelia!
Congratulations to Thomas Kasar who made it to the black belt in Karate at age 10! We are impressed!
Many congratulations go to Darcey Trotman (3DE) who played in a county tennis competition at grade 4 levely over the holidays in the 9 under girls' singles and was runner up. This is a fantastic achievement since the winner was one year older and plays at national levels. Darcey will also be representing Oxfordshire on the 17th April for the county cup in Hertfordshire - she has been selected for the 8 and unders!
We wish her the very best and look forward to hearing of her continued success.
Alongside two European School pupils, Martin played his own composition “Flight of the Bird” at the Yamaha National Junior Original Concert of Young Composers in Birmingham on 17th January. It was a very exciting event, which went very well. Martin has also played his piece in the evening performance of the Joint Concert with ES Frankfurt and ES Culham in the Schumann Hall on 3rd March and will play it at the School’s Enrichment Concert on 18 May.
