Europa School UK is celebrating because it has just secured a new end qualification for its multilingual students. Europa School will be the only state school in Oxfordshire to offer the globally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
Following the Brexit referendum and a period of uncertainty Europa School’s students can breathe a little easier knowing the school can offer the IB Diploma Programme from September 2020. This accreditation follows a rigorous programme of staff training and inspection by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
This time last year Europa School UK, a unique multilingual state school in Oxfordshire, featured in parliamentary debates and in news articles all over Europe as Brexit threatened the future of its current end qualification, the European Baccalaureate
Europa School UK now adds IB World School – Diploma Programme to its portfolio of accreditations and partnerships.
“The extraordinary commitment of very many secondary teaching staff during the preparation period over the past year has enabled the school to move forward and secure its new end qualification in spite of all the political turmoil and socio-economic implications of Brexit.” said Lynn Wood, Principal of Europa School UK.

Over 1 million students across the globe are enrolled at IB World Schools and benefit from a unique education. The Diploma Programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge as well encouraging them to flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
The Diploma Programme is recognised by universities across the globe, the UCAS website says of the qualification “This is an academically challenging programme with final examinations that prepare students for university and working life.” “45.7% of UK IB students go on to a top 20 university (compared with 32.9% of A’ Level students” according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA)).
The IB Diploma Programme provides a broad baccalaureate curriculum where students study six subjects including first and second languages, mathematics, at least one science, as well as humanities and optional arts subjects. They also study Theory of Knowledge and complete a 4000-word original Extended Essay. This academic programme is complemented by the Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) component.
Europa School UK is an all-through (4-18) school, however, there are some places available for entry to Year 12. Students who would be interested in enrolling for September 2020 can find further information on the school’s website or contact admissions.
